Property: Colorless or white translucent fragment or powder. mp179.75°C. bp204°C. d²⁵₄ 0.992.fp 64°. At 25°C one gram dissolves in about 800ml water, in 1ml alcohol, in 1ml ether, 0.5ml chloro form, 0.4ml benzene, 0.4ml acetone, 1.5ml oil of turpentine, 0.5ml glacial acetic acid. Soluble in aniline, nitrobenzene, carbon disulfide, petroether. Camphor has a peculiar tenacity and cannot be powdered in a mortar unless it is moistened with an organic solvent. Familiar fragrant and penetrating odor. Slightly bitter and cooling taste. Sublimes appreciably at room temperature.
