Islin or Ethephon: CLCH₂CH₂PO(OH)₂

Properties: The pure product is colorless crystal, melting point 74~75℃，soluble in water, alcohol, hardly soluble in benzene and dichloroethane and insoluble in petroleumether. It easily deliquesces in air. Its water solution will show the acidity. Contact with alkali, it gradually decomposes and releases ethylene.

Use: Widely used in promoting the ripening of fruits and tomatos, increasing the tillering of the wheat and paddy rice and also preventing in rubber tree and the lacquer of lacquer tree, acceleration the maturity of cotton, tobacco, and sorghum, etc. It can shorten the production period of many plant, increase their yield, improve their quality and reduce the labour.
